Hi, I’m Ed— I run Windermere Wakesurfing and more often than not you can expect to see me leading your session. I hold a BWSW (British Water Ski & Wakeboard) licence, which just means I’ve had proper training to help people learn watersports safely and confidently. That’s me in action below.

With the warmer weather finally creeping in and longer days on the lake, it’s the perfect time to get back out on the water. Whether you’re completely new to wakesurfing or just a bit rusty after the winter break, here’s what you can expect from your first session.
Why Wakesurfing?
Wakesurfing is one of those sports that’s fun right from the start. It doesn’t take long to get going—most people can reach an advanced beginner level within a couple of sessions [1]. And once you get the hang of it, it’s a great way to spend time outdoors, stay active, and enjoy the incredible scenery around Lake Windermere.
If you’re not sure where to start, our wakesurfing FAQs are a good place to begin.
Our Base: Windermere Marina Village

We operate out of Windermere Marina Village, just south of Bowness. It’s a full-service marina and one of the best places to start your wakesurf journey.
Here’s what makes it ideal:
Convenient facilities – There’s easy parking, changing rooms, and everything else you might need.
Scenic views – You’ll be surrounded by the fells and the lake, which makes for a pretty special setting.
The Marina View Bar – A great spot for a coffee or bite to eat before or after your session. Take a look at our recommendations for other things to do in Windermere.
Easy access to the water – We can get straight onto the lake and make the most of your time.
Our Boats: Powered by Nautique
We’ve partnered with Nautique for one reason—they build the best wakesurfing boats out there. Their Super Air Nautique models include the Surf System with WAVEPLATE® technology, which lets us tailor the wave to your ability [2][3].
In simple terms, that means:
- A consistent, clean wave to surf on.
- Safety features built into the boat.
- Space on board for friends or family to watch and support you.
The boat really does make a difference, especially when you’re learning.

What to Bring
To help you get the most out of your first session, here’s a quick checklist:
Wetsuit or swimwear – The lake can still be cool in early summer. We’ve got wetsuits available to hire if you need one.
Life jacket – We provide these, but bring your own if you prefer.
Towel and dry clothes – You’ll want to warm up and change afterwards.
Sunscreen and sunglasses – Even on cloudy days, UV rays reflect off the water.
A good attitude – This helps more than you’d think. Wakesurfing is meant to be fun, and we’ll take it at your pace.
What a Session Looks Like

Over the last few years, I’ve taught many, many lessons to people of all levels. I keep the sessions relaxed but focused, with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and steady progress. We’ll always go at your pace and adapt to your needs.
Here’s how a typical session goes:
Briefing – We’ll go through safety, signals, and what to expect.
Gear check – Making sure everything fits and is set up properly.
On-the-water coaching – I’ll guide you through each step using our unique Windermere Wakesurfing method: from getting up to finding your balance and starting to carve
Practice runs – You’ll get time to try things out, with feedback along the way.
Wrap-up – We’ll talk about how it went, what to work on next, and answer any questions you have.
Why Windermere Wakesurfing?
