If you are heading to the Lake District and fancy something a bit more exciting than the usual stroll and scone, this is for you. Imagine a morning cruising around the fells in a proper off-road Land Rover with Kankku, followed by an afternoon surfing behind a boat on Lake Windermere with Windermere Wakesurfing. Land to lake.
You’ll not just see the Lake District, you’ll immerse yourself into its hidden depths.
Morning: The Onshore Adventure

Start the day off road. Kankku, based right in Windermere, runs 4×4 adventures using beefed up Land Rover Defenders that can handle whatever the fells throw at them. Rocks, water, steep climbs, it is all part of the fun.
You will get a proper briefing at their HQ, then set off in a convoy with radio support. You do the driving, they guide you from the lead vehicle. No need to be an off road expert, they will talk you through the tricky bits and help you build confidence as you go.
The routes take you away from the crowds and into the hidden parts of the Lake District. You will be bouncing along forest tracks, climbing stony paths, and taking in cracking views most people never see. Look at Windermere from up high knowing you’re about to surf it later. That’s living.
Lunch Break: Refuel in Windermere

Back Windermere, you will want to grab a bite before hitting the water. Windermere is full of great little spots for a quick lunch. There’s everything from a hearty roast to a light bite, or even something healthy and nutritious to keep you properly fuelled.
Not sure where to go? There really is no place like Windermere for food and drink. We’ve pulled together all of our tried and tested things to do in the lake district so you can’t go wrong.
But remember, nothing too heavy, you have got a wetsuit to get into soon. You could even grab some sandwiches and snacks and bring them on board? Take a look at our wakesurfing FAQs if you have any questions as to what else you might want to bring.
Afternoon:The Offshore Adventure

Once you are fed and ready to go again, it is time to swap your muddy boots for a surfboard. Windermere Wakesurfing is just down the road, and this is where things get seriously fun.
Wakesurfing is basically surfing a wave made by a boat. You hold the rope to get up, then once you are steady, you let go and surf the endless wave just behind the boat. No sea swells, no paddling — just smooth, flowy surfing across arguably one of the most beautiful lake in the country.
And here is what makes Windermere Wakesurfing a bit special. First off, you will be taught by Ed, a BWSW qualified coach who is brilliant at making things feel relaxed and fun, even if it is your first time. He is calm, encouraging, and knows exactly how to get you surfing confidently without any pressure.

Secondly, the setup is seriously good quality. You will be riding behind a custom surf boat with adjustable wave tech, which means the wave can easily be dialled in to suit your level — mellow and steady for beginners, or more powerful for those who want a bit more of a punch.
Sessions are always private and tailored to your group, so it is just you and your crew. No sharing with strangers, no waiting around, just your own adventure on the water.
And if you do not fancy surfing the whole time, that is fine too. Chilling on the boat is just as good. Great music, stunning views, and a laid back vibe the whole way through.
Whether you are up for a full throttle session or just want to give it a try and enjoy the ride, Windermere Wakesurfing hits the sweet spot between chill and thrill.
